Google has just rolled out Android 16 Beta 2.1, bringing a fresh wave of updates and refinements to the upcoming operating system. This release, aimed at both developers and beta testers, focuses on the issues that affected the device's performance, connectivity, system stability and other aspects. Read out all details here.

Google released Android 16 Beta 2.1 to developers and beta testers on Friday. The most recent testing version of Google's smartphone operating system, which builds on the release of Android 16 Beta 2 earlier this month, is initially available on a few Google Pixel devices. Android 16 Beta 2.1 is regarded as a minor rollout and does not include any noteworthy new additions, in contrast to the previous update that introduced hybrid auto-exposure mode, UltraHDR HEIC photos, and other new privacy features. The update does, however, address important problems that affected the device's performance, such as connectivity, system stability, and performance.

In the meantime, it is anticipated that the business will make the stable version of Android 16 available to qualified Google Pixel smartphones in the second quarter.

What's new in the Android 16 Beta 2.1 update?

Google claims that the Android 16 Beta 2.1 fixes a number of problems that users had with Google Pixel devices after the previous updates. With build number BP22.250124.010, it fixes an issue that prevented the phone from going into Doze mode, a power-saving function that limits apps' access to network and CPU-intensive services in an effort to save battery life.

While setting up live wallpapers, another problem that was reported on Google's Issue Tracker was choppy animations. It's been resolved. According to the changelog, the update also fixes devices that reboot unexpectedly and randomly. Additionally, it includes fixes for issues with system performance, connectivity, and stability, according to Google.

When will Android 16 be available?

Previous reports indicate that on June 3, Android 16 is expected to be transferred to the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). Additionally, that same day, it is probably going to be released as an over-the-air (OTA) update for Google Pixel devices, which are typically the first to receive the most recent Android updates.

Interestingly, AOSP is a source code repository that contains the core of the Android OS which will allow developers to create custom variants of the OS catering to their respective devices. They can even port it for the release.
