Early Android 16 Release on the Charts: Here's What Google Plans To Do
Google is all set to roll out the Android 16 update sooner than expected. It has also shared the timeline for the release, which will be followed by a second update. The minor update will not include new behaviour changes for apps. Google Pixel devices are expected to get Android 16 on the same day it launches on the AOSP platform.
Google also launched the Pixel 9 series smartphone this year with the older version of Android 14 out of the box. The company plans to address this timing gap by releasing the Android 16 update earlier to align with the next Pixel launches in 2025.
Android 16 Release Date in 2025: Google's Plans Revealed
The most significant shift with Android 16 will be its release date, as Google appears to be targeting Q2 2025 rather than the usual Q3 timeframe. This adjustment hints at a broader strategy by Google to roll out new products slightly ahead of its typical schedule.
Additionally, Google is planning a minor Android update in Q4 2025, which is expected to introduce support for upcoming hardware upgrades.
According to the report, Android 16 is set to be moved to the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) on June 3. Android 16 is also expected to roll out as an over-the-air (OTA) update for Google Pixel devices on launch day, allowing Pixel users to be among the first to access the latest features.
Android 16: Features to Look Out for
According to the reports, Android 16 may allow third-party developers to utilize Rich Ongoing Notifications, the OS’s version of Dynamic Island. This feature enables developers to customize status bar chips with tailored text, background colours, and icons. However, for users to experience this, apps will need to integrate these capabilities first.
Additionally, Android 16 is rumoured to introduce a "bubble anything" feature, potentially allowing users to open any app in a floating window on smartphones and tablets, enhancing multitasking capabilities.
