Instagram Rolls Out Profile Grid Updates and Extends Reel Duration to 3 Minutes: Details
Instagram has announced a significant update bringing two key changes to the platform: a redesigned profile grid and an extension of Reels video duration to up to 3 minutes. Users can now pin up to three posts to the top of their profile grid, highlighting their most important or favorite content. Check out all details here.
On Saturday, Mosseri announced a platform update through a Reel stating that users can now upload videos lasting up to three minutes on the platform, akin to YouTube Shorts. In the past, Instagram permitted users to share videos lasting up to 90 seconds. This announcement comes after a month of YouTube's recent update to its Shorts policy, allowing videos of up to three minutes.
Meanwhile, TikTok has also been banned in the United States. This still does not compare to TikTok, which permits users to upload videos lasting up to 60 minutes.

In the Instagram Reel, Mosseri stated that beginning today, you can upload Reels to Instagram that can be as long as three minutes. Originally, it has been just 90 seconds, as our aim was to concentrate Instagram on short-form videos instead of long-form. However, he added that the app has received considerable feedback from creators indicating that 90 seconds is simply too brief. We anticipate that extending the limit to three minutes will assist you in narrating the stories you truly wish to convey.

This is not the sole update arriving on Instagram. The platform will soon swap its famous square grid layouts for rectangular ones. Mosseri stated that this adjustment was implemented because the majority of content shared on the platform is vertically oriented, and square grids often cut off too much of this content.
Finally, Instagram will begin displaying your liked Reels to your friends. This update will emphasize the likes and reactions on Reels, indicating that users may need to be more cautious about what they like or comment on, particularly if they wish to maintain their privacy.
