Android users are being warned about newly discovered high-risk security vulnerabilities that could leave their devices vulnerable to attacks. The vulnerabilities affect Android 12, Android 13, Android 14 and Android 15. Security experts are urging Android users to take immediate action to protect their devices. Here's everything that you need to know.

Android Users Warned of High Risk Security Vulnerabilities Details
Android Users Alerted to a Serious Security Risk by the Indian Government
MeiTy, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, has warned Android users about a number of reported vulnerabilities. Android 12 and later software has been impacted, according to the ministry's collaboration with the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In). These users may be subject to a high-severity cyberattack, according to the warning. The government agency reveals that these numerous Android vulnerabilities are caused by framework flaws, though chipset component issues may also be to blame.

The vulnerabilities are caused by defects in the Android framework and potentially chipset components, according to CERT-In. "A number of Android vulnerabilities have been reported that could be used by an attacker to execute arbitrary code, obtain sensitive information, elevate privileges, or cause denial of service (DoS) conditions on the targeted system," the agency says. The possible effects on impacted devices are used to determine the severity.

How to Mitigate Android Security Risks
Users of Android 12 through 15 are advised by CERT to update their devices as soon as possible. Software must be kept up to date in order to protect against potential threats. Protecting against recently found vulnerabilities can be facilitated by routinely checking for updates and turning on automatic updates. There are other actions users can take to improve device security in addition to updating software. Avoid downloading apps from unreliable sources or clicking on dubious links as these can pose dangerous risks. Always download apps from official stores to minimise risks.

How to protect your device

Using strong, one-of-a-kind passwords for all of your accounts, including your Apple ID, will improve security. Activating two-factor authentication (2FA) adds an additional degree of security. App permissions should be reviewed frequently to make sure they only access the data that is required.

Keep an eye out for phishing attempts that try to obtain credentials or personal information. Before supplying any information, confirm any unexpected prompts asking for private information. These safeguards greatly improve device security and lower the likelihood of cyberattacks. This warning emphasizes how crucial it is to remain vigilant in order to maintain device security in the face of changing cyberthreats. Users can better defend their data and privacy from potential attacks by adhering to recommended practices.
