Nintendo has unveiled the initial glimpse of the Nintendo Switch 2 portable gaming device. The next version of the Nintendo Switch console boasts a larger screen, updated Joy-Cons, and enhancements to its overall design. Although the company did not disclose the details of the second-generation Switch console, it confirmed that the Nintendo Switch 2 will launch this year. Check out all details here.

Nintendo Switch 2 Consoles First Teaser Released Set to Launch This Year
Nintendo Switch 2
Nintendo has officially unveiled its upcoming hybrid console, the Nintendo Switch 2, on Thursday. In a video shared on its social media platforms, the Japanese firm showcased a larger, darker, and improved successor to the hugely successful Switch. The Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch in 2025 and will feature exclusive games made for the console while also being compatible with both physical and digital Switch games.

Nintendo has not revealed technical specifics for the Switch 2, choosing instead to showcase the new hardware in the initial trailer. The design of the new console closely resembles that of the Nintendo Switch, prioritizing enhancements rather than a complete overhaul. Many of the alterations reflect what had been anticipated in leaks and reports during the last several months.

Nintendo Switch 2 Features an Expanded Display
The largest and most anticipated of all the changes is likely the bigger screen. The original Switch had a 6.2-inch LCD screen, whereas the OLED version upgraded to a 7-inch OLED display. Although Nintendo hasn't provided specifications, the Switch 2 screen appears significantly bigger in the video. The console might feature an 8-inch display, according to previous reports.

The Nintendo Switch 2 keeps the USB Type-C port located on the bottom edge of the display and introduces another USB Type-C port on the top side alongside the power and volume buttons, the 3.5mm headphone jack, and the game card slot.

As anticipated by leaks, the console features a redesigned kickstand as well. The weak stand from the initial Switch and the plate-style design of the OLED model are replaced; Switch 2 now includes a rail kickstand that extends along the bottom edge of the rear side of the screen. The kickstand can now flex to a greater extent, nearly leveling the console with the surface.

Meanwhile, the Joy-Cons have also been redesigned. They're larger now to fit the bigger display, and Nintendo has removed the classic blue-red color scheme from the original Switch controller. The updated Joy Cons are entirely black, featuring blue and red highlights along their edges and on the joystick casing. As leaks suggested, Nintendo has abandoned the rail system for attaching the Joy Cons to the screen in favor of a snap-on design with pins located at the center of the spine.
