Instagram Rolls Out Profile Grid Updates and Extends Reel Duration to 3 Minutes: Details

Instagram has announced a significant update bringing two key changes to the platform: a redesigned profile grid and an extension of Reels video duration to up to 3 minutes. Users can now pin up to three posts to the top of their profile grid, highlighting their most important or favorite content. Check out all details here.

Instagram has rolled out a significant update, now allowing longer video uploads. Once restricted to videos of a maximum of 90 seconds, creators can now post content that is up to three minutes long. This update seeks to provide creators with greater freedom to share their narratives and craft engaging experiences for their viewers. The update has been announced by Instagram chief Adam Mosseri.

On Saturday, Mosseri announced a platform update through a Reel stating that users can now upload videos lasting up to three minutes on the platform, akin to YouTube Shorts. In the past, Instagram permitted users to share videos lasting up to 90 seconds. This announcement comes after a month of YouTube's recent update to its Shorts policy, allowing videos of up to three minutes.

Meanwhile, TikTok has also been banned in the United States. This still does not compare to TikTok, which permits users to upload videos lasting up to 60 minutes.

In the Instagram Reel, Mosseri stated that beginning today, you can upload Reels to Instagram that can be as long as three minutes. Originally, it has been just 90 seconds, as our aim was to concentrate Instagram on short-form videos instead of long-form. However, he added that the app has received considerable feedback from creators indicating that 90 seconds is simply too brief. We anticipate that extending the limit to three minutes will assist you in narrating the stories you truly wish to convey.

This is not the sole update arriving on Instagram. The platform will soon swap its famous square grid layouts for rectangular ones. Mosseri stated that this adjustment was implemented because the majority of content shared on the platform is vertically oriented, and square grids often cut off too much of this content.

Finally, Instagram will begin displaying your liked Reels to your friends. This update will emphasize the likes and reactions on Reels, indicating that users may need to be more cautious about what they like or comment on, particularly if they wish to maintain their privacy.

Apple has Disabled This AI Feature for Select Apps with iOS 18.3 Update: Know Why
Apple has temporarily disabled its AI-powered news summary feature for select apps in the latest iOS 18.3 update. This decision follows concerns from news organisations and users regarding the accuracy and potential for misinformation of the AI-generated summaries.

The "Apple Intelligence" feature, introduced earlier this year, aimed to provide users with concise summaries of breaking news through push notifications. However, instances of inaccurate and misleading summaries generated by the AI system led to criticism and concerns about potential harm.

News organisations like the BBC raised concerns about the AI tool falsely claiming that Luigi Mangione, a suspect in the murder of the UnitedHealthcare CEO, had committed suicide. This incident and other inaccurate summaries prompted Apple to take action and temporarily disable the feature for affected apps.

In the iOS 18.3 update, Apple has paused the rollout of AI-generated notification summaries for news and entertainment apps. The company plans to refine the feature to improve its accuracy and address concerns about misinformation before reintroducing it in a future update.
