Sony Interactive Entertainment unveiled the much awaited PlayStation 5 Pro (PS5 Pro), making a significant announcement. The popular gaming console has been upgraded, and among its many impressive features is powerful AI upscaling technology. Check out key features and other details about the newly launched Sony PS5 Pro here.
The PlayStation 5 Pro, the highly anticipated and improved version of Sony's well-known game console, has finally been revealed. It has a strong graphics processor supporting enhanced ray-tracing and AI upscaling. The system will go on sale in a few markets on November 7 for $699.99. Sony has not yet disclosed the cost and availability for India. Approximately 40% more expensive than the standard PS5 (review), the PS5 Pro does not come with a Blu-ray disc drive. However, similar to the PS5 slim model, one can upgrade the console and purchase a Blu-ray disc drive separately along with coloured side panels.
Lead PlayStation system architect for Sony, Mark Cerny, said that the console is "the most powerful we've ever built." The PS5 Pro is designed to run AAA games in performance mode and has 45% faster graphics rendering than the standard PS5.
The new PS5 Pro features a new AMD GPU with 28% faster memory and 67% more compute units than the original PS5. It also has the AI-assisted upscaling capability of Sony's PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR).
Performance will be improved thanks to the upgraded hardware and AI; games like The Last of Us Part II will run at 60 frames per second instead of 30 like they did on the standard PS5. With the addition of new "Game Boost" technology, the most recent Sony console is also backwards compatible with over 8,500 PS4 titles.
The PS5 Pro is the first console from Sony to support the newest Wi-Fi 7 networking. It also has twice as much storage—2 TB—and an extra NVMe SSD slot for expanding storage.
Additionally, Sony is remastering a number of well-known PS5 games for the new PS5 Pro, dubbed PS5 Pro-enhanced games. This includes well-known titles like The Last of Us Part II Remastered, Alan Wake 2, Assassin's Creed Shadows, Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and more.
On the PS5 Pro, these games will run smoothly at 60 frames per second in 4K resolution. Some of these games should also run smoothly at 8K with enhanced ray-tracing.
