ChatGPT on WhatsApp has received a massive update allowing users to communicate via image and voice input. OpenAI has announced this development last year in December and now the functionality has been spotted accessible on the instant messaging app. Though features like image generation and voice mode were still restricted to the app and web version of the service, WhatsApp's AI-powered chatbot can respond to any question, much like the specialized ChatGPT app.
According to a report by Android Authority, OpenAI recently revealed that WhatsApp users would now be able to transmit photographs to ChatGPT in order to obtain information about it. The AI chatbot can also receive voice notes, which it will translate into text in order to process and respond to user inquiries.
According to the company, users who have paid for ChatGPT will soon be able to access premium benefits while on the go by logging into their account on WhatsApp. It is important to remember that users do not need to have an account or be enrolled in a paid plan in order to communicate with ChatGPT over the phone.
To enable ChatGPT on WhatsApp, users will have to first save 1-800-242-8478 as a contact on their phone, then relaunch WhatsApp. Once done, they would be able to see the company's official account in their contact list. Although not everyone will find the new features useful, they can be helpful when the internet is slow or on phones with insufficient storage or processing power.
Additionally, OpenAI has also hinted at potential future advancements, such as enabling users to access their ChatGPT accounts directly through WhatsApp. If the same account is used, this feature may allow conversations to be synchronized between the ChatGPT web client or mobile app and the WhatsApp platform.
Meanwhile, a new "deep research" mode has also been added to ChatGPT by OpenAI, enabling users to conduct multi-step web research for more difficult tasks.
