Google has announced a significant update to its Gemini AI, now offering direct access to Android lock screens via new extensions. This integration allows users to access and interact with Gemini's features without needing to unlock their phones. The Gemini extensions were first rolled out last year. Read out all details here.

Gemini extensions are now being made to work on Android devices' lock screens. Previously, Gemini could do certain things on the lock screen, like turning on the flashlight or setting an alarm, but Google Assistant handled these instead. The tech behemoth from Mountain View has now enabled lock screen extensions, enabling the AI chatbot to carry out these functions on its own. Notably, users will still need to unlock their devices before performing certain tasks, primarily those that require the AI assistant to access personal data from apps.

Gemini Extensions is now accessible through the Android lock screen
Google described the new Gemini AI assistant feature in a support page. The company has now made it possible for the Gemini extensions to function even on Android devices' lock screens. Since their initial release last year, extensions have enabled Gemini to connect to various applications and features of a device in order to carry out tasks.

These extensions are currently accessible through the Android app, the web client, and the Gemini AI assistant. However, these weren't functional on the lock screen. Therefore, Gemini would need to activate Google Assistant in order to perform even simple tasks like setting an alarm.

This new feature will offer a seamless Gemini experience when using the assistant on the lock screen. From the lock screen, the Gemini AI assistant can now perform tasks like finding a nearby store, setting a reminder, providing quick navigation details, and responding to general inquiries. The updated Gemini interface is displayed after being activated using the standard procedures. But as it finishes the task, the full-screen interface is automatically opened.

For users who have been using Google Assistant on the lock screen, the feature ought to be enabled by default. Those who haven't used the virtual assistant while the device is locked, however, will need to manually activate the feature. The Gemini app can be opened, the profile icon tapped, Settings > Gemini on lock screen > selected, and Use Gemini without unlocking enabled.

OpenAI announced a new improvement in its file search system last week. The latest improvement was added to the ChatGPT API and can be used by developers only. This way, developers can ensure that only the desirable responses are picked. Read the more details inside.

OpenAI Provides Developers More File Search Control Over AI Assistants
OpenAI, the artificial intelligence research laboratory, has announced a significant update to its AI assistant platform through X (formely known as Twitter). This new feature grants developers greater control over how their models interact with uploaded files. It aims to improve the accuracy and relevance of AI-generated responses while ensuring data privacy and security.

Previously, developers using OpenAI's platform had limited options for configuring how their models processed and searched through uploaded files. This could lead to unintended consequences, such as the model inadvertently revealing sensitive information or generating responses that were not aligned with the context of the files.

With the latest update, developers can now specify how their AI assistants should search through uploaded files. This includes options for searching specific files, folders, or entire directories. Additionally, developers can set rules to limit the amount of information the model can access from each file, ensuring that sensitive data remains protected.

OpenAI emphasised the importance of this update in ensuring the responsible and ethical use of AI technology. The company aims to mitigate the risks associated with unintended data leaks and privacy violations by providing developers with more granular control over file searches.

"We believe that AI should be a tool for good, and that means ensuring it is used responsibly," said Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI. "This update gives developers more control over how their AI assistants interact with data, helping protect user privacy and ensure that the models generate accurate and relevant responses."

The new file search capabilities are now available to all developers using OpenAI's platform. The company expects this update to significantly impact the development of AI-powered applications across various industries, including customer service, healthcare, and finance.
